Never Settle.

You are the only one who can write the ending to your health story.
“You aren’t going to get into med school.”
“You are probably going to lose your leg.”
“You’re never going to run again.”
“Lupus is a life long disease, you may not complete med school.”
“You’ll be on immunosuppressants for the rest of your life.”
“You’ll have to be more careful than most people in life so you don’t get sick.”
“Healthcare is what it is, you’re not going to change it.”
Everything above was shared with me by my professors, college counselors, fellow physicians and colleagues. Most of whom were very well meaning, and many that I respect to this day.
But... I CALL BULLSHIT.
Today I run however long I want, on two legs. I take no prescriptions, and after more than a decade of conscious choices have reversed all autoimmune antibodies and am healthier than I’ve ever been.
I did indeed get in, and through med school. I adore being a physician, and I firmly believe I am changing healthcare for the better.
Never let a doctor tell you your outcome. Or anyone for that matter. You control your mindset, and to a huge degree your genomic expression. Our choices and our thoughts very much affect our daily lives, how we think and feel, and even our biology.
Even in dire or seemingly irreversible scenarios, maintaining your agency as a sovereign human is crucial. It allows inner peace and dignity during trying times. And sometimes, the outcome may surprise you.
My past illness is truly my greatest source of gratitude. It showed me my self worth, and what I’m capable of. And it showed me what I am meant to do in this world.
So in case anyone needed to hear this today, never ever settle. Trust YOUR intuition, and when it kicks in, question the facts given to you.
I don’t know about y’all, but I’d rather drive the ship than get thrown around by the ocean.
Next week, I'll be pre-launching my passion project: Autoimmune Academy. I put pen to paper and organized all the steps I took to take my own power, and health, back. I can't wait to share it with anyone who's ready to do the same.
As always, thanks for listening.
